Accountability Data ... 2018 MDE Parent Dashboard
The Parent Dashboard is the easiest and most transparent tool to look at the components of school accountability. The measures are reported in an intuitive manner and include comparisons to the state and similar schools. A brief Guide to State Assessment (PDF) using the Parent Dashboard and the RNN Data Tools are available as well as an eight minute video tutorial found on this page, "Parent Dashboard 2018." Additional resources and video tutorials on the complexity of the School Index are found below. A third tool of interest compares schools across the nation using the SEDA Data Tool.

2020 Accountability Resources for 2018/19 school year
On December 2, 2019, MDE released the embargoed School Index system into MI School Data for school officials to preview before the public release, contact your ISD to gain access. As of December 9, 2019, the data became public on MI School Data. A third system is being developed by MDE, according to state law known as A-F, which will likely be released in March or April 2020. The components will be similar the the Parent Dashboard and School Index, using some of the same methodology. The best resource will continue to be the Parent Dashboard!
MDE and MISD have compiled some guidance documents for the School Index. MDE also provides a School Index Brief (1 page) and a more detailed School Index Guidance document. The following videos were produced in 2018 and take a deeper dive into the calculations of the School Index. The first video "Index Overview 1 of 3" covers the purpose of the index to drive ESSA labels, how schools are identified with those labels, and a first dive into the calculations of the index using the participation component. Video #2 & 3 dive deeper into the explanation of proficiency, growth, and other components. There is also a brief document explaining the similarities to the Parent Dashboard, School Index, and A-F Report Card (PA 601 of 2018).

Why are relationships more important than test results?
Robert Marzano made a profound conclusion when he stated "Arguably the quality of the relationships teachers have with their students is
the keystone of the effective management and perhaps even the entirety of teaching." Regardless of how schools are measured, we must maintain our focus on the Four R's, including deep, professional dialogue around the results. The video link on the right shows why Relationships, knowing your students, is more important than the test (Results). |
