Hard Copy of Spring Timeline Month by Month
Picture
Spring is an opportune time to review learning targets at each grade level.  Is what we are doing working; how do we know?  How can we move the students who have not yet demonstrated proficiency on critical standards to proficiency by the end of the school year?
Looming Deadlines
  • School Systems Review (SSR) submitted for  early-March deadline (remember:  districts must also approve!)
  • Mid-March: Compile required perception surveys (staff, parents, & secondary students) plus recommended surveys (community and elementary students)
  • DUE April 15:  District System Review  NOTE:   For single-building districts the SSR replaces DSR
  • Mid-April: complete  School Data Analysis (SDA)
  • Mid-May:   School Improvement Plans to be completed at the building-level for use in district-level planning
  • Spring proficiency assessments administered
  • Review and Analysis Process (RAP) teams meet and analyze  CIMS reports; send transmittal forms/letter to school improvement team regarding target areas

Building Activities

A) School Data Analysis
  • Collect any data not pre-populated on MI School Data ...
  • Discuss the four types of data ...
  • Report by updating applicable questions and submit/transmit within AdvancED
  • Click here for more SDA information
B) School Improvement Plan
  • Using the Comprehensive Needs Assessment process  (CNA)...update the gaps...
  • Update current SIP initiatives with data from SSR/A...
  • Based on data highlighted by the CNA, write S.M.A.R.T. objectives ...
  • Based on the School Systems Review, update ...
  • Based on the CNA, gap, and identified causality, brainstorm solutions ...
C)  Typical window for summative assessments (Informed Interim Assessments) as well as, end of the semester/module/quarter/trimester exams.
  • Essential Question:  Is what we are doing working and how do we know?
  • If data shows our strategies are working ... Celebrate!!!
  • If results fall short of stated objectives, determine the cause by evaluating fidelity first.
  • How do we support students in a systemic way that did not demonstrate proficiency on critical standards?
  • Is there a way to target only specific areas and still provide opportunities for credit?
D)  School Improvement Team members finalized for upcoming year, including all required members

District Activities

  • Approve all submitted SSRs/SAs by mid-march deadline
  • Complete District Systems Review (should be informed by the SSR and SA; Due April 2).
  • Engage in discussion and planning around budget estimates.
  • Establish a District-wide date for building SI Plans and SDA to be submitted to central office ... suggestion:  SDA mid-April since it drives ... SIP mid-May since it drives ... DIP due June 29

Classroom Activities

  • Compile formative assessment data as it relates to fidelity of implementation of SI strategies, keeping in mind that the school improvement team will be making decisions regarding which strategies to retain for next year
  • Compile summative assessment data (rather Informed Interim Assessments) as appropriate to measure student proficiency on targeted standards, with particular attention to additional interventions necessary as the year draws to a close
  • Complete all progress monitoring tasks specific to current Instructional Learning Cycle; detailed data will be necessary for reporting conversation
  • Gather any additional data expected by school improvement team for all regular meetings (anecdotal, observational, student work samples, other formative assessments, etc.) as the team works to revise the plan for the coming year

Other Considerations

  • MME Testing Window
  • K-12 ELPA Testing Window
  • Planning for Summer programs
  • Early window for Consolidated Grant Application opens May 15
  • PD calendar for upcoming year finalized/posted
  • School Improvement Team (SIT) meeting schedule for upcoming year finalized/posted
  • Incoming SIT members begin attending meetings
  • Administer spring proficiency assessments,  such as  NWEA/MAP, Delta Math, GLAD, DIBELS, common writing prompts, etc.
