The MDE MICIP team has been hard at work to provide access to MICIP Mindset materials that can support work in the field.  An MDE MICIP Web Page has been created!

On this page you will find a One-Pager to copy and utilize with your colleagues and districts.  Additionally, by pressing on the Professional Learning button, you can access the recording of the MICIP Overview and Mindset Webinar to view on your own or with district partners.  The PowerPoint slides and speaker notes are posted for your use.  There is also a “Contact Us” button at the bottom of the page if you have any questions.

Dr. Cathy Meyer, Jeff Tousley, Dr. Brian Davis, and Dr. Doug Greer presented on the importance of multiple measures and teacher dialogue.  Key to the process for both districts is the dialogue around the data rather than just the data points.  The dialogue focuses on interim and formative assessment that drive instruction through the SLO Process and de-emphasizes the use of state assessments.  Both districts use Adequate Growth with Standard Error as a more teacher friendly growth measure and apply a shared (or group) attribution.  Here is the slide deck to the presentation and the 2019 comprehensive document about shared attribution for student growth at Holland.

MDE is offering a series of professional learning opportunities to assist our shift in mindset around continuous school improvement.  Further into the year MDE will offer more learning around process and platform. The first of these will address the MICIP Mindset, including moving from annual district and school improvement to year-round continuous improvement, focusing on systems, and considering the whole child.  We would like to invite you to a webinar on this topic on Tuesday, September 10 from either 9:30 – 11:00 am or 1:00 – 2:30 pm.  Please feel free to invite anyone from your ISD/ESA who you think could benefit from this information, including any consultants.  The sessions will be identical so staff members need to attend only one. 
 
In addition, we are offering a two other opportunities on Wednesday, September 18 from either 9:00 – 10:30 am or 1:00 – 2:30 pm.  While ISD/ESA personnel could also attend these sessions (they will be identical to those on September 10), we might also encourage you to consider inviting district personnel to view the webinar with you on September 18.  This could then be followed by a conversation with those personnel about what this might mean for them during the 2019-2020 year even prior to the rollout of the actual platform.  Once the webinars are over, we will also be making them available through on-line modules so if none of these sessions work for you, you will also be able to access them that way.
