Hard Copy of Winter Timeline Month by Month
Picture
The School Improvement Process truly picks up during the winter as monitoring of the current plan overlaps with gathering and analyzing data for the upcoming plan.  In addition, the first compliance components of the new cycle need to be meaningfully completed.
Looming Deadlines
  • Budget Amendments within Consolidated Application DUE January 15, 2015
  • School Systems Review  DUE March 20, 2015 ( activities leading up to submission detailed below)
  • Mid-March: compile required perception surveys (staff, parents, & secondary students) plus recommended surveys (community and elementary students)
  • District Systems Review DUE April 17, 2015
  • School Data Analysis (SDA) recommended for mid-April completion (DUE Sept 1 but should inform spring/summer planning)
  • Districts with Title I Buildings: contact and meet with Private/Non-Public entities in February

Building Activities

School Systems Review
Complete in chunks throughout winter months to be finished by mid-February:

1) COLLECT staff perception, which are based on the School Improvement Framework. You may want to consider how you will GATHER the data in order to define the problem ... (read more)
2)  DISCUSS only key indicators which you most likely will tie to your School Improvement Plan ...
3) REPORT the results in AdvancED in mid February (internal deadline usually first week of March) ...
NOTE: Resources available ...  (read more)

B)  Administer winter benchmarking assessments,  such as  NWEA/MAP, Delta Math, GLAD, DIBELS, common writing prompts, etc. as well as any summative assessments (or Informed Interim Assessments).
  • Essential Question:  Is what we are doing working and how do we know?
  • If data shows our strategies are working ... Celebrate!!!
  • If results fall short of stated objectives, determine the cause by evaluating adult  fidelity of implementation first.
  • How do we systemically support students that did not demonstrate proficiency on critical standards?
  • Is there a way to target only specific areas and still provide opportunities for achieving proficiency?

District Activities

  • Remember the District must approve each building SSR or SA in AdvancED.
  • District Improvement Team (DIT) should communicate regularly with School Improvement teams surrounding building-level data.
  • DIT should analyze building-level data, discern trends, and adjust District Improvement Plan accordingly.
  • Trend data and SSRs or SAs should be taken into consideration throughout district completion and submission of District Systems Review .  (EXCEPTION:  For single building districts, the SSR replaces the DSR)

Classroom Activities

  • Compile formative assessment data as it relates to both fidelity of implementation of school improvement  strategies and student progress toward proficiency
  • Compile summative assessment data (or Informed Interim Assessments) as appropriate to measure student proficiency on targeted standards and ultimate success of implementation
  • Celebrate the growth that has occurred with staff and students!
  • Complete all progress monitoring tasks specific to current Instructional Learning Cycle; detailed data will be necessary for reporting conversation
  • Gather any additional data expected by School Improvement Team for all regular meetings

Other Considerations

  • MME Prep for 11th graders based on ACT Explore/Plan data and strategies linked to school improvement goals such as comprehension of informational text, persuasive writing, cross-text analysis, etc.
  • MEAP data released for 3rd - 9th grade:  find ways to celebrate improvement and success!
