During the summer months, the district concentrates their efforts on consolidating building-level plans to create a highly-effective district-level plan; school professionals continue to implement and progress monitor instructional strategies from the school improvement plan throughout summer programming.

Looming Deadlines

  • District Improvement Plan (DIP)  submitted by late June
  • Title I School Selection due by late June
  • Consolidated Grant Application due late June for typical July obligation
  • End-of-Year Report for Section 31A due mid-July
  • Teacher-Student Data Link (TSDL Report) in Michigan Student Data System (MSDS) due late August
  • School Improvement Plan final revisions submitted and transmitted by September 1 (NOTE:  School Improvement Plans should have been completed in mid-May to drive DIP)
  • Annual Education Report DUE 15 days prior to the first day of school.

Building Activities

  • All School Improvement Plans should ideally be finalized by June 1 for inclusion in District Improvement Plan
  • School Improvement Plans should be submitted by September 1
  • Teachers/support staff facilitating summer programs continue to implement research-based strategies identified in School Improvement Plan, paying strict attention to fidelity, and  progress monitoring regularly for effectiveness
  • Student proficiency data from summer programs  and/or findings from analysis of said data should be passed on to school improvement team members for consideration in finalizing upcoming School Improvement Plan
  • Begin completion of the Annual Education Report in June, finish and post in early August.

Classroom Activities

  • Summer is an excellent time to revisit curriculum alignment, mapping, and pacing based on prior year.
  • In addition, review MEAP and MME trend data to prioritize standards and the amount of time devoted to instruction.

Individual Student Activities

  • Student-level progress monitoring against recently identified individual target areas continues throughout participation in summer programs
  • Data regarding individual student success in summer programs is gathered and/or analyzed upon program completion

District Activities

  • School Improvement Plans transmitted upon building submission
  • District Improvement Plan updated/finalized
      1. District Improvement Team should review, analyze, and synthesize data-driven objective statements and  high priority strategies from all building-level plans into one coherent District Improvement Plan
      2. District Plan should include district-level progress monitoring strategies for each regional initiative, with district-level special population and overall proficiency data gathered and analyzed consistently
      3. District Improvement Team/business official should review and synthesize state- and/or federally-funded  strategies/activities from all building-level plans to complete the Consolidated Grant Application
      4. Allocations must be compliant with state and federal regulations; particular attention should be paid to funding those research-based, highly-effective  strategies targeting special populations of students who are at the greatest risk
  • Begin completion of the Annual Education Report in June, finish and post in early August.

Other Considerations

  • Evaluation of programs
  • Consolidated Grant App modifications
  • Public release of school and district report cards (mid-August)
  • MME data becomes public
  • Graduation rate appeals window open
  • Annual Education Report posted two weeks prior to start of school
